TC99: Jason Gill, Loyola Marymount

As we aim to balance the baseball map just a bit, we head once again to the west coast. This time we’re not far from LAX, where we’re visiting the campus Loyola Marymount of  and their head coach, Jason Gill. In fact, they’re so close to LAX that Coach Gill has made an offer for anyone listening to stop by for a campus visit if you’re in the area or have a layover.

In this episode, Coach Gill talks quite a bit about recruiting, drawing from his own experience as a scrawny teenager. He talks about how the recruiting philosophy for his staff has changed a bit in the last few years, looking less at things like arm strength and speed and more for “baseball players.”

We also get into the ever present topic of scholarships and how to spread 11.7 across a roster of guys that are trying to make it all work at a typically expensive private institution.
