Let’s be clear about one thing here — we’re talking HARFORD baseball. Not HARTFORD. Not HARVARD. And the way things are going for this JUCO in Maryland, perhaps Harford will become a very familiar name outside of Maryland in very short order. In this episode, we’re talking to the head coach of the Harford Community College Fighting Owls, Tom Eller.
Maryland is one of those states where you might mistakenly think that they’re not impacted by the worst of winter weather, but at the northern end of the Chesapeake Bay, Harford often plays spring games in conditions reminiscent of old Candlestick Park. But fret not for the Fighting Owls — a supportive administration and more than adequate funding have lead to some terrific facility upgrades over the last several years.
In this episode, we talk quite a bit about the reality of JUCO baseball recruiting, the influence of the draft, and the proper protocol for four-year schools in courting JUCO players.
