Xan Barksdale made an impact as a catcher and now he’s making an impact by teaching catchers, both as an assistant at East Tennessee State University and with projects such as Catching-101.com. Xan grew up in Mississippi and after a couple of years at Holmes Community College, he finished up his schooling at Ole Miss. He then spent some time in the Atlanta Braves organization.
In this episode, Xan talks about catching in a way that will benefit baseball coaches across the spectrum. He talks about some of the do’s and don’t of coaching catchers, how to maximize practice time, and what he looks for in a good catcher.
