Top Coach 8: Rick Jones, Tulane University

We could have spent the entire show talking about barbecue and Andy Griffith, but we finally got around to baseball. It appears that Tulane University’s Rick Jones knows almost as much about barbecue as he does baseball. And for you fans of the Andy Griffith Show, a little trivia — Jones played his Legion ball in Siler City.

It’s difficult to wrap your head around the idea of spreading 11.7 scholarships around to 35 players, but try doing it at Division 1’s most expensive baseball playing school. That would make Jones some kind of a wizard in my book. Coach Jones also talks about high expectations for the Tulane program and what it means in light of his lowest win total in his 20 years at Tulane (that would be 30 wins, by the way).
