TC78: Randy Mazey, West Virginia

It’s back to West Virginia for Top Coach. This time we’re visiting with the head coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers, Randy Mazey. Mazey is another in the coaching family tree of Keith Leclair and Jack Leggett.

Mazey’s fledgling Big 12 squad surprised everyone in 2014 with a third place finish in the conference. With a new stadium slated for opening day of 2015, Mazey and the Mountaineers are expecting even bigger things in Morgantown.

In this episode, we talk about facilities, the baseball culture of West Virginia, and gauging the commitment of a school to the game of baseball. At the end of this interview, Coach Mazey explains why he thinks it’s a good idea to move college baseball to the summer and what he’s trying to do about it.
