His Chillicothe Illinois Valley Central team won the state championship in 2006, with current Cleveland Indians pitcher Zach McAllister, and was runner-up in 2008. In addition to well disciplined and successful teams, Coach Rashid has one of the finest fields at any level in Central Illinois. The Midwest Baseball Coaches’ Clinic has been ongoing for since Coach Rashid first led a team back at Princeville (IL) High School. In over 30 years of coaching, he’s sent many players to college and the professional ranks, with one current Major Leaguer and several minor leaguers. Last year’s Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year, Chris Razo, is an IVC product. Check out this interview and you’ll hear a heart that beats baseball.

I feel very fortunate that my son, Chris Razo, played for 4 of the coaches that have been featured on this podcast. Chris played for Coach Rashid at IVC High School, Coach Metzger and Coach Kauten at Heartland Community College and for Coach Kingston at Illinois State University. Chris was a pitcher for all four coaches and I feel that all did a great job in preparing him to play at the next level. Chris was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers this past spring and is preparing to go to spring training. I have coached baseball for over 30 years and I am benefiting from hearing all of these interviews.
