Given that a significant portion of our Top Coach community is made up of high school coaches, I really intended to get a high school coach on here sooner. For our first guest I didn’t go checking any hall of fame lists, but rather called up an old buddy, great high school coach and teacher, and all around good guy, Wayne Meyer of LeRoy High School in Central Illinois. Wayne is representative of the average high school coach. That is, coaching is something he does when he’s not doing a lot of something else. In his case, that’s teach English at the high school. As you’ll hear, however, Wayne’s interests are varied — and extremely interesting. As you listen to Coach Meyer’s interview, many of you will be able to relate to what he’s got going on.

Played for coach Meyer at LHS over 13 years ago and now currently coach baseball myself at the high school level. Wonderful coach and ambassador for the game, but an even better person. I still think of him every time I walk into a Casey’s General Store! He made those bus trips very memorable. Great interview.
Played for coach Meyer at the Jr. High/High school level for 7 years. The thing that I enjoyed the most about Coach Meyer is his sense of humor. He has the perfect balance of knowing when it is time to be serious vs. relaxing/being funny. I learned a lot from him as an English teacher and as a coach. 10+ years removed from LeRoy High School and I still do not forget the memorable moments playing high school baseball (class of 05) with my classmates along with Coach Meyer.
