In this episode, we’re talking to a coach who came to a crossroad — the same one that many of you face. That is, do I continue in my pursuit of coaching or follow another passion? Such was the decision for Marlin Ikenberry, who was at the time the very successful head baseball coach at Virginia Military Institute. Private industry came calling and made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. But that didn’t last long and when the job at James Madison University came open, he took the opportunity to jump back in. Listen carefully as Coach Ikenberry talks about the factors that went into his decision to leave coaching and ultimately return.
Also in this episode, we discuss playing with his twin brother, American Legion Baseball, the nuances of recruiting to a school like VMI, and the pros and cons of letting a catcher call pitches.
