TC163: Mark Smith, Providence Catholic HS (IL)

This former Providence Catholic High School player thought he had a good gig going. Mark Smith was delivering milk in the morning and coaching with the legendary Wayne King at Joliet Junior College. That is, until he found out that the long time baseball coach at Providence was leaving. The opportunity was too good to pass up. Back to back Illinois state championships have validated his decision. A long time football power in the very powerful Chicago Catholic Conference, the Celtics have demonstrated that they’re equally adept on the diamond.

In this episode Coach Smith talks about taking care of his assistant coaches and student helpers. We also talk about using extracurricular activities as a development tool, building relationships with players, maintaining a staff, and the importance of clinics and seminars.
