We heard from many coaches and fans that this was a guy we just had to talk to. Looks like there’s a lot of good buzz about Rick O’Dette from St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana. By all accounts, Coach O’Dette runs a first rate program in northwest Indiana. He has seen several of his assistants move on to positions at other schools, including the head coach at fellow GLAC member Quincy University, Josh Rabe, a former guest on Top Coach.
Coach O’Dette played his college baseball at St. Joseph’s and was drafted by the Boston Red Sox, for whom he played at four different levels in their organization before injuries put a halt to his playing career. Prior to returning to SJC, Coach O’Dette did some coaching with instructional organizations, the Chicago White Sox Academy, and one year of high school baseball.
In this episode, Rick O’Dette talks about loyalty, the attributes of a good coach, and how he utilizes 50 players on his roster.
