We do indeed love Virginia and we love baseball in the state of Virginia. Today we’re talking to the head coach at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, Chris Finwood. Coach Finwood has taken a long route — not unlike many college baseball coaches — and ended up in the old neighborhood. He played his high school ball right across the bay in Hampton, Virginia and then traveled down the road a bit to Virginia Military Institute to play his college ball for four years (and he really loved the 2 am push-ups in his underwear).
Coach Finwood has a good thing going now in Norfolk, with a growing university and a baseball program that’s on the verge of breaking through to the next level. Fan support is up since his arrival and the schhol’s administration has demonstrated a commitment to growing the sport. In this episode Chris talks about playing midweek games against the other D1 schools in Virginia and the opportunity to coach his son.
