He’s had a good long run, but at season’s end Bobby Pierce will be calling it quits at Troy University. Growing up in north central Florida, except for a brief stretch when he was at the University of Alabama-Huntsville, he’s never strayed far from the area in northern florida-southern Alabama.
Like most young athletes, Coach Pierce played many sports, but he credits his more than a decade in swimming for preparing him for future success in college baseball. After a couple of seasons in JUCO ball, Pierce thought he was headed to finish up his college playing career at Florida State, but had a last minute detour when a phone call from Bear Bryant to Pierce’s grandfather made him turn the car north and head to the University of Alabama.
