TC113: Tracy Woodson, Richmond

Tracy Woodson will remember Kirk Gibson’s fist pumping home run in the 1988 World Series much better than you or I, as he had one of the best seats in the house. Woodson was a member of the Lasorda-led Dodgers, but now has intentions of leading his own University of Richmond squad to their own share of glory.

Coach Woodson grew up in Richmond and attended high school there, but made a name for himself while playing baseball at North Carolina State for legendary coach Sammy Esposito. After a career in professional baseball at the minor and major league level, Woodson tried his hand outside of organized baseball in Richmond before getting the call from Valparaiso (IN) University. While there, he not only piled up the W’s, but picked up his baseball-postponed degree. Then the old hometown school came calling and Coach Woodson is feeling right at home back in Richmond.
