TC110: John Schaly, Ashland University

There have been a couple of father-son combos who’ve won 1,000 games each and we’re happy to say we’ve now had one member of each group. First it was Paul Mainieri. Now it’s Ashland University’s John Schaly. One of the great details that came up in our conversation with Coach Schaly was the fact that the ever gracious Coach Manieri called him up to congratulate him for passing the 1k milestone.

There’s a wealth of knowledge accumulated and distributed over the course of 1,000 wins and Coach Schaly has enough common sense ideas to spread over a year’s worth of interviews, but we did our best to squeeze out some of the jewels. For now, we get to hear about taking care of business in a northern climate, playing for his legendary coach-father, coaching in the very competitive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and how Coach Schaly’s definition of success has changed over the years.
