Top Coach 109: Andre Butler, DeSales University

We love it when we can bring a young guy on and pick his brain. Kind of helps us all to refocus and reassess. Our guest today is early on in his coaching career, not far removed from his playing days at Eastern University. A self-proclaimed “not very good player” while growing up on the west side of Philly, Andre Butler struggled hard to learn the game and now is applying the same work ethic as he earns his coaching stripes at DeSales University, about an hour outside of Philadelphia.

Not only is Andre working to further his coaching career, he’s already giving back to the community in many ways. We were especially interested in hearing about the Jackie Robinson West Philadelphia T-Ball League, started by and run by Andre. In fact, he currently carries all of the equipment and supplies for the league around in his little two-door car and shows up like Santa Claus several days a week for 40 eager young baseball players.
