Time, eventually, would run out. A lifetime of watching scoreboard clocks taught Pat Dye this.
So, before his luncheon address in Pensacola on Wednesday, he suggested for someone to blow a whistle if he went too long.
“I don’t have any notes,” he joked.
Dye, however, stopped the clock on his own at the end — for one last message as the keynote speaker at the Greater Pensacola Chamber’s 127th annual meeting. That’s when the 77-year-old former coach and the man who steered the Auburn Tigers to some of their greatest years showed he still has not forgotten how to motivate.
