Back to the baseball hotbed of Pennsylvania to talk to the head baseball coach at Slippery Rock University, Jeff Messer. When you’ve been at one place for 38 years, you’ve probably got some things to say that people ought to pay attention to. For those of you headed to Nashville in January, Coach Messer will be one of the coaches receiving a spot in the ABCA Hall of Fame.
In this episode Coach Messer talks about Slippery Rock (the town and the school), small college town life at a big school, growing up in Massachusetts, his coaching path, changes over the decades (competition, the PSAC, student athletes), being an advocate, baseball in the state of Pennsylvania, the very competitive PSAC, Kevin McMullan, advice to coaches regarding finding the right fit, leaning on advisors, facilities, turf field, scheduling, and his staff.
