Many of you who follow college baseball will no doubt remember Landon Powell and his exploits at South Carolina for the legendary Ray Tanner. You’ll probably also likely remember that he was on the receiving end of Dallas Braeden’s perfect game for the Oakland Athletics in 2010. Now he’s added another memorable milestone with his North Greenville University baseball team capturing this season’s NCAA D2 championship in Cary, North Carolina.
In this episode of Top Coach, Coach Powell discusses the NGU 2022 championship run, growing up in North Carolina, playing collegiately at South Carolina, being an MLB first round draft pick, catching Dallas Braeden’s perfect game, lessons learned as a pro player, his injuries and sicknesses, losing a daughter, landing his first coaching position at Furman, moving to NGU, overcoming obstacles, recruiting, transfers, and his recent emphasis on recruiting high school players.
