Raise your hand if you’ve driven down I-75 between Lexington and Knoxville and wondered about that great looking campus along the east side of the highway in Williamsburg, Kentucky. That very beautiful and inviting campus is the University of the Cumberlands, an interesting place indeed. But it’s made even more special by the presence the last 22 years of baseball coach Brad Shelton. As you’ll hear in this interview, this self described small town country boy has got a great story to tell.
In this episode, Coach Shelton talks about what makes University of the Cumberlands such a special place, the Williamsburg area, growing up in Kentucky on a farm, work ethic, getting into coaching, his first coaching job at St. Catherine’s, how the coaches in his family helped him to understand the path a little better, landing the job at Cumberlands, Woody Hunt and Cumberland University (the other Cumberland), Keith Madison, a review of his UC career, recruiting philosophy, culture and family, staff, family, and work/life balance.
