Chuck Box has quite a tale to tell. This long time coach didn’t take a “traditional” path into College Station. But it is exactly his openness and eagerness to learn that has earned him a spot in one of the best college baseball programs in the country, working under one of the most innovative and forward thinkers in baseball. When Jim Schlossnagle was looking to add to his staff at Texas A&M, he found a five tool player whose vast experiences at many levels and in many fields could help move the program forward even further.
In this episode, Coach Box talks about growing up in Columbus, Mississippi, knowing at an early age that he wanted to coach, playing college baseball at Freed-Hardeman, his time as a student assistant, wearing out the pages of Scholastic Coach magazine, creating a “system book”, relationships, landing the new position at Texas A&M, his first conversation with Coach Schlossnagle, learning new things, and who he goes to for advice.
