TC373: Dr. Barry Davis, Rider University (part 1)

Two things become abundantly clear when talking to Dr. Barry Davis — he knew early on that he wanted to coach and he geared everything he did toward eventually becoming a head coach. All the typical obstacles were in the way, but he acknowledged them and worked through them. One could say he was (and is) focused. Today he is 18 seasons into a very successful run at Rider University and helping others outside his traditional orbit through his speaking and writing.

In today’s episode Coach Davis talks about Rider University (only three coaches since 1961!), Rider Trivia(!), growing up in Virginia, his calculated path into coaching, the importance of organizations like the ABCA, his assistant coaching positions while earning is post-graduate degrees, his first head coaching position at Gloucester Community College, his coaching path, heading south to Georgia Southwestern State University (and learning to work with four year players), and the move to Rider.
