From hearing him tell the story, it was baseball that was running through his head while sitting in his accounting classes at Birmingham Southern. Brooks Webb was far too invested to take a different route in school, but his path beyond school has little to do with crunching numbers (except budgets!). Shortly after his school days were finished, he landed at USA Baseball, thinking that this would be for the long term. But one of those short list jobs came open and Brooks headed to Vanderbilt, where he’s been since 2016 as Director of Baseball Operations.
In this episode, Brooks talks about the recent College World Series championship for the Commodores, trying to be somewhat prepared for a celebration without jinxing the effort, growing up near Birmingham and going to school at Birmingham Southern, being recruited by Brian Shoop and playing for Jan Weisberg (both former Top Coach guests), working for USA Baseball, the move to Vandy, culture, and his duties for the Commodores.
