TC330: Matt Clingersmith, Niagara County CC

Some of these interviews come to us from unexpected places — and I guess this would qualify. Drop a pin on the map at Niagara County Community College and you might think “day trip to the Falls” or “nice stopover on the way to Canada.” However, it turns out there’s a baseball team up there who smacks everybody upside the head when they’re not paying attention. Well, they’re starting to pay attention. Matt Clingersmith is at the helm of this NJCAA D3 program and they’re not just playing good ball, they’re playing getting to the D3 JUCO World Series and winning some games ball.

In this episode, Coach Clingersmith talks about the weather (of course), the SUNY system in New York, his own stellar baseball and basketball careers, his continued participation as a player in local baseball, getting his coaching start at Canisius, the difference between the various levels of the NJCAA, the run of success for the NCCC program, the geographical impact on scheduling and recruiting, culture, leadership, why earning his Master’s degreee was important, and what he’s most proud of in his coaching career.
