TC293: Mike Stawski, Concordia Chicago

We’re headed to Chicago for the first time ever — almost. Today we’re visiting with Mike Stawski, the head coach of Concordia University Chicago baseball, which is about two blocks shy of Chicago in River Forest, Illinois. As you’ll hear in the first few minutes, Coach Stawski is one of those guests for whom we could play Top Coach Bingo, because he’s connected to many of our former guests.

In this episode, Coach Stawski talks about growing up in Chicago (as a Cubs fan!), competing in four sports at athletic powerhouse St. Rita High School, being the first commit ever for Rick O’Dette at St. Joseph’s (IN), his first coaching position with Bill Kurich at Webster University, his time at Spalding University (and being followed by Jeremy Sheetinger), making sure he married a “coaches wife”, the importance of mentors, the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, the new weight room at Concordia, recruiting, building relationships with high school coaches, and his staff.

Find out what Coach Stawski is so excited about at More Than A Game.

Notable quotes:
