Up in this part of New England, they love hockey and they love their Sawx — and they do love their baseball. That’s why it’s no surprise that Jeff Mejia has no problem finding guys for his Northern Essex Community College teams that can compete with the big boys on the block — even to the point of making it to the NJCAA D3 World Series five of the last six seasons and making it to the title game in 2016.
In this episode, Coach Mejia talks about his time in the US Army after high school, the lessons that he learned in the Army and still uses today, his leadership roles in the military and on athletic teams, starting as a volunteer coach, attending the ABCA convention, his strategy for convention attendance, finding his niche, trying to take a “four year school approach” for his program, what he tries to accomplish with their Florida trip each spring, his approach to recruiting, dealing with weather in the Northeast, working with the school’s academic and administrative areas, and creating relationships.
Coach Mejia is also responsible for Team Boston Baseball.
