Wes Brooks has created quite a legend for himself down in Oxford, Alabama, first as an all-state performer in football and baseball, then right up the road as a record-setting baseball player at Jacksonville State, and of late as the super successful head coach of a state champion baseball team at his alma mater, Oxford High School.
In this episode, Coach Brooks talks about all of his many duties at Oxford High School, balancing family and other duties, the competitive nature of high school baseball in Alabama, Oxford’s state championship in 2012, multi-sport athletes, the “opportunity clock”, “victories” before you arrive at school each day, the importance of a daily routine, Oxford’s award winning ballpark, and his work with USA Baseball.
Notable quotes:
- “I am more than just a coach. I am a second father to most f these guys and the parents put a lot of trust in me.”
- “If we can get a better man, we know we’re going to get a better baseball player.”
