Finally! Yes, we’ve plugged that gaping hole in our Top Coach Guest Map that’s right over Arkansas. And we’ve done it in a big way with the incredibly successful and popular head coach at the University of Central Arkansas, Allen Gum. Coach Gum is Arkansas born and bred and, except for a brief foray right over the border into Missouri for a couple of years to play JUCO ball, he’s spent his coaching and playing years in every corner of the state. Coach Gum started off coaching high school baseball and thought that was where he was meant to be. However, an opportunity arose at his alma mater, Southern Arkansas, and he quickly put his fingerprints on college baseball — first as an assistant and then head coach.
In this episode we talk about coaching high school baseball, his other responsibilities at Southern Arkansas, the importance of gratitude, remembering those who helped you get to where you’re at, sharing his faith in a public setting, the attributes of a good coaching candidate, his definition of success, and the things he looks for in a potential assistant coach.
