Billy Hayes has one leg firmly planted in high school coaching and one leg in travel baseball. He’s the very successful coach at Battle Ground High School in Washington state, near the Washington/Oregon line. He also founded and runs Showtime Baseball in the same area. Hayes is the son of a coach who spent some time in the US Army before getting into coaching.
In this episode we focus quite a bit of time on the differences between high school baseball and travel baseball. Given that they have a 20 game limit in Washington state, Coach Hayes notes that travel ball fills an important gap when it comes to reps. He also talks about what is probably the largest high school baseball field in Washington — 370 down both lines and 485 in left center.
