With the passing of Pat Summit this week, I was once again reminded of a life’s impact through the wonderful sentiments from hundreds of individuals around the country who have been impacted by this great basketball coach. Paraphrasing what Billy Graham once said, coaches can impact more lives in a year than most people do in a lifetime. This you know all too well. But let’s not stop at coaches here. Most of you could rattle off the name of five to ten people that have had a disproportionate impact on your life.
Today I encourage you to not wait until their passing to express those sentiments. It doesn’t mean that in the wake of the death of a mentor other influencer that kind words don’t mean something too. Family and friends are comforted and the “extended family” finds solace and encouragement in a life well lived. But don’t wait until it’s too late.
Let those people who’ve impacted your life know about it while they’re still around. It might be something as simple as a phone call or email. Frankly, I’m all about sending cards. In this current time with E-everything, it still gives you the warm and fuzzies to hold in your hand a handwritten expression of someone’s gratitude.
So don’t wait. Take time today to let someone know how much they’ve meant in your life.
