Dr. Peter Geannelis spearheads Southern Vermont College baseball field project | Bennington Banner

As we all know well, in baseball — if it’s going to get done — you’re going to have to pick up a shovel (or rake) and do it! Kudos to Dr. Peter Geannelis! As you’ll read below, once again it’s baseball people helping baseball people.

BENNINGTON — The Southern Vermont College baseball field got a face lift recently as Dr. Peter Geannelis of Mount Anthony Veterinary Hospital in Bennington donated supplies and labor to restore the team’s playing field.

Geannelis donated seven palettes of Kentucky Bluegrass sod and bought bases, base plugs and 24 tons of martin mix for the project. He also provided equipment for the job, including an aerator machine, bunker rake and sod cutter, among various other hand tools. Geannelis gave up his own time, more than 30 hours in fact, for labor and consolation to the project.

The Mountaineers team and the facilities staff could not have been more grateful for the kind donation made by Geannelis for the cause.

“What Dr. Geannelis did for our baseball program speaks truly to what kind of an individual he is,” SVC baseball coach Adam Skonieczki said in a press release Monday. “We are extremely grateful for his time and generosity; we cannot thank him enough for his contributions.”

“Peter’s enthusiasm for baseball and his dedication to making the playing field ‘just right’ is contagious,” Director of Facilities Mark Klauder added. “His high energy level motivated all of us to see a new dimension in baseball field maintenance.”

Geannelis has owned and operated the Mount Anthony Veterinary Hospital since 1988. It originally opened as a mixed animal practice, but has since become solely dedicated to the well being of small companion animals. He has coached baseball and basketball, while also donating uniforms and helping construct baseball fields throughout his life.

The Mountaineers finished last season with a 8-26 record. They hired Skonieczki as their 11th all-time head coach back in October.
