Council mourns the loss of coach Brian Hess | HeraldCourier.com

Coaching girls basketball and softball at a high school with an enrollment of 116 offered plenty of challenges, but Brian Hess helped make those sports both fun and rewarding for those he mentored at Council.

“To say he was popular with his players is probably an understatement,” said Council athletic director Neil Rasnake. “Those girls loved him and he loved them and treated them like they were his own. “Everybody loved Brian. He was just one of those people who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.”

Hess, 46, died on Thursday after suffering a heart attack, according to Rasnake, and his sudden passing was devastating for the folks in Buchanan County.
