Christian Dearborn didn’t require any soul-searching to find his calling in life.
His dad is a dedicated coach/athletic administrator, his mom is a hall of fame athlete and coach, and what runs thicker than blood lines and competitive juices?
Yes, Dearborn was all but born to coach. It’s not even surprising he’s done so at an age younger than most head coaches’ socks and shoes.
At age 23, Dearborn is the head coach for the Hillcrest Christian football team, which competes in 8-man football. The Moorpark High graduate landed a position as coach and history teacher at the Thousand Oaks school in June and he’s been as happy as an unguarded wide receiver ever since.
“It’s been gratifying,” he said. “We’ve had to face so much adversity and still the guys have stayed together. We’re battling and improving and that makes me happy. We’re still learning about each other, and getting better every practice.”
His dad, well-respected Moorpark High athletic director Rob Dearborn, admits to a father’s pride.
“I’m absolutely proud of him,” said Rob. “He’s worked so hard and prepared himself. He’s known what he wants to do for a long time.”
