The moment you first realized that you might like to make coaching part of your career?

I was a sophomore in high school and wanted to play for the varsity baseball coach, Randy Leach. He had an impact on me from the positive way he handled players. Treated them with the utmost respect and challenged them to be better. Never got to play for him! He moved over to football by the time I was on varsity. Nonetheless, he was the reason I wanted to coach.

Outside of mentors, talk about one or more ways you’ve learned some aspect of coaching.

READING! There is such good material out there in respect to coaching and building your coaching platform. Leadership, psychology, sport specific material that I have read and still read help to nurture learning and becoming a better coach, father, husband and human being. I’m a podcast junkie as well: ABCA, TopCoach, AOTC just to name a few.

If you could go back to your rookie coach self and give one piece of advice, what would it be?

Don’t worry about the wins! Love the players, push them hard and the results will take care of themselves.

Name one new thing you want to accomplish this year.

Develop better daily habits to ensure that I’m learning as much as I can to get our players better and have a greater impact on those I come in contact with.

Your dream lunch date. One coach. Any sport. Any level. Living or dead. Who is it?

There are so many great coaches that I would like to talk with! I would love to have a chance to meet Tim Corbin and spend some quality time with him! Would love to breakdown developing culture and loving players.
